3 Questions to Ask when Booking an Event or Wedding Designer

The floral arrangements and decor are typically a major part of the style, design, and atmosphere at a wedding/event. Keep in mind the florist's style and personality when recommending floral designers for your clients.



To help ease the stress when meeting with these professionals, we've created a list if 3 top questions that should be asked during the meeting and prior to securing the vendor.



Question #1 - Can you work with my floral/decor budget?


This is extremely important because during the wedding and event planning process the budget is always the top priority to most clients. Knowing if a designer works with your budget upfront eliminates wasted time and energy. Occasionally, a wedding designer can make the appropriate accommodations for you depending on several factors such as your selected venue, layout, and must-haves! Elements can include anything from table decorations for the wedding reception, ceremony decorations,



Question #2 - What type of deposit is required and what is the schedule of payments?


This is highly important! Event and wedding designers work with many different payment systems and knowing this upfront helps to plan and map out your event budget. Also, be sure to ask if the deposits are refundable or non-refundable in certain circumstances. This can be the determining factor in securing your event designer and/or wedding florist. Most vendors require full payment within 30 days of your wedding or event date. The payment schedule can vary depending on several factors that should be disclosed at booking.


It's just as important to ask what are the acceptable and preferred payment methods. Our preference is the use a payment processor such as Stripe over others like Zelle, Cashapp, etc. This ensures all transactions are documented properly for business purposes.



Question #3 - Will you create a mock-up centerpiece or create a full table design mock-up?


Being able to view your design beforehand helps eliminate the unwanted stress of the unknown. Although, our clients allow us to use our creativity to create flawless designs, will still give us the opportunity to view digital mockups in the weeks leading up to their wedding day. But not all designers offer this service, so it's a great thing to ask during your consultation for event design services with the vendor. Being able to view your wedding or event design mockup, helps the designer further understand your style, vision, and preferences. Not all clients like certain florals or bling factors, so it'll help eliminate the need to start over or unnecessary supply purchases.


Please be mindful that a digital mockup and a full table design mockup are two different things. A digital mockup of your wedding or event design includes a digital version using software that'll give you an idea of what to expect from your event designer specialist. It's a great way to see your color scheme come together. But a full event table design gives you a more in-depth view of your event design and what the colors, florals, and table linens look like, and the textures that'll be incorporated into the design.
